How do I review AI-generated documentation before it merges?

Short answer

Route every documentation pull request into a review queue, have a named person read the rendered result, and make a recorded sign-off a condition of merging. DraftView does this for doc PRs in connected GitHub repos, whichever tool wrote them.

Start by catching the pull requests

Connect the DraftView GitHub App once. From then on, each documentation pull request in a connected repo lands in your team's review queue. DraftView also loads recent open doc PRs when you connect, so the queue is not empty on day one.

It flags a PR as AI-authored from the author name, branch name, description and commit trailers. That works for any generator, not just one vendor's.

Review the page, not the diff

The reviewer opens the PR as a rendered page. They can comment, suggest an edit, or both. Their feedback syncs to GitHub as review comments and Suggested Changes.

Close the loop with the agent

When the agent pushes a revision, DraftView checks whether the commented region actually changed. If it did, the item moves forward and the reviewers get an email asking them to verify.

A push that ignores the comment does not count as addressing it.

Make sign-off a real step

A person with the approver role signs off. That adds a row to an append-only record. With CI green, the item reaches ready to merge. A human then merges in GitHub.

DraftView never merges for you, and an agent cannot sign off on its own work.

What to know before you rely on this

  • DraftView reviews documentation files. It is not a code review tool.
  • AI detection is a best guess from signals in the PR. You can still add any PR to the queue by hand.
  • Sign-off is a record of a human decision. Branch protection in GitHub is what actually blocks a merge.

Common questions

Does it work with agents other than Claude?
Yes. Detection reads signals on the pull request, so it does not depend on a particular tool.
Can the agent read the reviewers' comments?
Comments and suggestions sync to the pull request on GitHub, where an agent can already read them.
What if a reviewer approves without reading?
DraftView records review depth, such as comments and edits made before sign-off, and reports the share of AI PRs with substantive review on the Governance plan.
